The Science of Sustainability: A workshop for resilient counsellors
Runs in full and half day formats.
Description:
This introductory workshop is intended for counsellors, nurses, social workers, caregivers, probation officers and any other helping professionals. It provides an opportunity to pause to reflect on your personal relationship with your professional practice with vulnerable individuals, and to explore the impact of your work on your wellbeing. Participants will be introduced to the Career Engagement Model, and through this model we will review theory related to both the challenges inherent in our work, including the stages of trauma, the impact of the client/caregiver relationship, and the basic neuroscience of threat reactions. We will also explore ways to increase capacity and resilience, self-care and team-care, and review protective factors.
Through psychoeducation, personal and team exercises, and small group discussions, participants will enhance their personal awareness of the dynamics and interplay of challenge and capacity, with a focus on capacity raising tools and processes that can be used on an ongoing basis to enhance sustainability in the face of challenges including work-related trauma.
