We are pleased to introduce the Safe And Sound Protocol (SSP) from Integrated Listening Systems to our menu of options. The SSP was developed over 20 years of research by Dr. Stephen Porges. The system is an acoustic vagus nerve stimulator that uses modified sound frequencies to stimulate the muscles in the middle ear where they meet the vagus nerve, which is the part of the nervous system that manages our relaxation and 'rest and digest'.
The SSP is a powerful new intervention that can help with a wide range of concerns. Originally developed for clients with ASD, it became clear that the impact of the intervention could also help with areas where the nervous system is held in an activated state. At our office we are seeing quick shifts for people with anxiety and panic, sleep concerns, digestive issues, trauma and attachment concerns related to struggles with social relationships and safety.
We suggest that using the SSP should be a part of a larger program that may include other services such as Counselling, Neurofeedback, HRV training, or the Focus System from ILS, which is a cognitive training protocol. Please discuss your treatment plan in your first session.
Doing the Safe and Sound Protocol requires a commitment to a 90 minute Intake and first session, followed by 4 sessions of 75min each. We will soon be offering an option for home rental for the the SSP equipment - at this point the Intake session will happen in the office followed by a rental of the equipment for home use for the remaining 4 sessions.
Cynthia and Andrea are our Counsellors who are working with the SSP.
